A horror tale
My sweet, oh ever so sweet Helena,
So quiet yet so full of life.
Her chest rhythmically moving,
As it follows her lungs eagerly claiming for her breaths.
Sweet, sweet Helena.
Sitting next to me…
All tense and restless thinking I’m asleep.
My fair, gentle Helena.
The quick, uncertain movement of her hand creating a silvery shining in the night.
Sharp silver on my sweet Helena’s hand.
Striking me with a knife.
My sweet tender Helena!
Startling me by the sting of the small she delivered to my calf.
—what are you doing with a knife you foolish little thing?!—
Hostile and sweet Helena?
Oh my sweet, silly Helena,
Stunned, scared and worried Helena.
Stupid ever so naive Helena,
Letting go of the knife the moment I grabbed.
Foolish irrational Helena!
Stupid little thing!
How little movement did she make,
As the sharp silver in my hand stroke her chest through her heart.
Sweet, oh ever so sweet Helena.
Tender lovable Helena,
Laying placid next to me.
Struggling for a last breath that comes out only as an exhale.
Sweet quiet Helena laying next to me,
is that relief showing on her face?
Sweet Helena, so still and quiet next to me.
Author’s note
A few days ago I woke up in the middle of the night. After one of those nightmares that make you stay up for longer than you expected to -specially when darkness is not one of your fortes- I couldn’t stop thinking about the dream, so I decided to write it down on my notes app, so I could take it out of my head and finally go back to sleep.
Spoiler alert, it worked, I could fall asleep again, and also, it came out quite interesting that I decided to post it here.
Hope you enjoyed reading it and I would love to know if there are some nightmares or dreams that have inspired your writing somehow.
